Acupuncture

Acupuncture points are selected according to condition, presentation and effect. Many people report feeling very relaxed during or after an acupuncture treatment. Electro-acupuncture is a modern form of acupuncture utilizing a small electric current passing between two acupoints to further relieve pain, promote muscle regeneration, and help regulate interactions between the nervous system and peripheral system. Both traditional acupuncture and electroacupuncture may be utilized according to your condition.

Adjunct Therapies

To complement your care, additional techniques such as cupping or Gua Sha may be performed within your treatment session. These therapies are excellent for promoting healthy circulation and releasing deep muscle tension.

Cupping may be described as the "opposite" of typical massage therapy as it creates suction, opening and decompressing the area to increase localized blood flow.

Gua Sha is a technique that utilizes a smooth-edged tool to scrape an area of muscle tension or inflammation improving blood circulation.

Avoid these techniques if you have bleeding disorders, skin infections, or severe chronic illnesses such as cancer or immunosuppressive diseases.

Common Questions About Acupuncture

Is acupuncture safe?

Licensed professional acupuncture is incredibly safe. We use only sterile, single-use, disposable needles that are discarded immediately after each treatment. Licensed Acupuncturists in Washington State are required to receive a minimum of 660 hours of supervised clinical work, with many programs exceeding this. Biomedical health and anatomical considerations and safe technique are always a forethought. Your safety and comfort are our absolute priority.

Does the treatment hurt?

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and much smaller and solid than a standard medical "needle" that people may think of. After a quick insertion, most patients feel only a slight tingling, a dull ache, or nothing once the points are in place. Many people find the process so calming they take a nap during their session!

How many sessions will I need?

Every recovery path is different. While some patients feel considerable relief after just one visit, often the longer the condition or pain has been present, the longer it takes to see lasting improvement. Most acute (new) conditions see lasting improvement within 3 sessions. We will create a personalized plan based on your unique health goals and response to treatment.

What should I expect at my first visit?

We start with a discussion about your health history and goals. After an initial assessment to understand your physical presentation, you'll receive your first treatment in a quiet, restful environment. We are here to support you and answer every question along the way.

How does acupuncture work?

By stimulating specific neurovascular points, acupuncture helps balance your nervous system, improves circulation, and encourages your body to release natural pain-relieving chemicals like endorphins. It works with your biological systems to facilitate natural recovery and vitality. It can support mental-emotional wellbeing through allowing a "non-talk" approach to healing and system integration.

Do you accept insurance or payment?

Yes, we accept a handful of insurance plans and offer straightforward self-pay options for those without coverage. We believe high-quality care should be accessible and honest, so we will help you understand your benefits and costs clearly before we begin.
